Aggressive and affordable representation in New Jersey Municipal or Superior Court

Any allegation that you may have committed a criminal or traffic offense is a serious allegation that you need to address immediately. If you plead guilty or you are found guilty, it could have extreme and serious consequences. Your conviction could prevent you from driving, obtaining employment, obtaining a professional license or securing a loan. And, you could have a criminal record for the rest of your life. In addition, your personal freedom could be taken away.

You should not be dealing with these issues on your own. You need an advocate—an experienced criminal defense lawyer to fight for you. You need The DeWeese Law Firm.

Attorney David DeWeese has a proven track record in criminal matters. His 30 years of experience include his employment as a municipal prosecutor and 22 years as a Municipal Court judge in Lower Township, Wildwood, West  Cape May and Cape May Point. His relationships will permit you to obtain the best results possible and his experience will enable him to quickly determine the best legal strategy for your situation. The DeWeese Law Firm will work diligently on your behalf to obtain the best result.

Possible penalties

Indictable criminal complaints, which are heard in the Superior Court of New Jersey, are the most serious offenses. These crimes—such as aggravated assault, drug possession and distribution, criminal sexual contact, theft by deception and terroristic threats—are indictable, and if you are found guilty, you could lose your personal freedom through a sentence in the county jail or state prison.

Criminal complaints that are heard in Municipal Courts—such as possession of drugs, underage drinking, simple assault, shoplifting or criminal mischief—are considered disorderly persons offenses. Still, if you are found guilty, you could lose your driver’s license, be sentenced to county jail and be forced to pay substantial fines. Again, you could lose your driver’s privileges—even if the offense had nothing to do with operating a motor vehicle.

Traffic violations that are heard in Municipal Courts—such as driving while intoxicated (DWI), speeding, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without insurance, moving violations and more, can also impact your life severely. You could be slapped with fines, points on your driver’s license (leading to higher insurance rates), suspension of your driver’s license, and, depending on your driving record, even jail time.  You could also be sentenced to community service.

Juvenile matters are handled through the Family Court in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Before a juvenile is adjudicated as a delinquent, the case may be eligible for diversion.
